iThembalomntwana pre-school

Updated April 2019

Thembisa has recently started supporting this pre-school in Edendale near Pietermaritzburg. Theuns Pauw, the CEO of African Enterprise, wrote to us as follows in September 2018

'The school building, previously a home for the Bonginkosi school (built with funds raised some years ago by Kennington Overseas Aid via Thembisa), had been vacant since mid-2016 due to various difficulties. Since joining African Enterprise South Africa as CEO in August last year, I have been wanting to re-open a pre-school there as its critical need in the community. The nearest primary school has been taking in children who have not been in pre-school, and who struggle academically as a result. I was overjoyed when I met a couple from the Edendale community who have been in education for many years, as head masters of schools, who had the same vision to open a pre-school. We were able to open the iThembalomntwana pre-school on 17 Jan 2018 with 40 youngsters between the ages of 2 and 5 years, for which we are very thankful!

'The school needs some improvements(Health Inspector's recommendations) in the form of separate toilet facilities for adults (one for males, and one for females), and also to landscape the playground and build a perimeter wall and a sliding entrance gate, for a secure playground for the learners.'
